Our story

Definition

Esikhumulweni is derived from an English word that means port or airport, which means port of entry Why did we name ourselves a port [isikhumulo]? Because that is where the majority of goods are collected and delivered to In addition, it is also a place where production and manufacturing take place

We recognize that it is at these ports of entry where goods are collected, manufactured, and delivered that the greatest potential for transformation lies. As such, we have dedicated ourselves to being a beacon of hope and possibility for all who seek to enter and explore the world of commerce. We know that with perseverance, hard work, and a commitment to excellence, anything is possible. So let us set sail on this journey together, with hearts full of hope and courage, knowing that we are destined for greatness. Together, we will reach new heights and surpass all expectations.

Background

In 2011, Esikhumulweni Primary Cooperative Ltd was founded by two adults women, and three
youths. Initially, the cooperative operated from containers. When our work began to grow, we approached the local ward councilor, who permitted us to use the old abandoned structure at
Kwamashu F980 Luthuli Road, 4360.
The building was in bad state it had no windows,no doors, partialy roofed and the community
had turned it into a dumping ground, which led to us hiring people to clean (Tractor and Truck).
Members of the cooperative dug deep into their pockets to purchase materials for refurbishment.

Upon our arrival, we also had to deal with many challenges as so many people
wanted to engage after seeing the beauty and potential of the place. It was then, that the story
of our cooperative came to life. Our brand Esikhumulweni Coperative has gained recognition within the  area and we hope to conquer more markets in the future.

“At Esikhumulweni Primary Cooperative, we work hard and learn together every day to make a positive impact on the world. We believe in the power of teamwork and encourage each other to dream big!”
